Pat Testing

PAT Testing

IO Power are specialists in Pat Testing (Portable Appliance Testing) and can help you comply with your organisations Health & Safety Policy.

There is a legal responsibility on employers, employees and the self-employed to comply with the provisions of the Electricity at Work Regulations and reasonably practicable steps must be taken to ensure that no danger results from the use of electrical equipment. The nett effect requires your organisation to implement a systematic and regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing.

What Does The Test Consist Of?

Portable Appliance Testing consists of a series of inspections and electrical tests on each item. These tests vary depending on the class of item. Appliance testing results are then noted and the electrical item marked accordingly with a pass or fail label. These results are then compiled into a report and sent together with your certificate after testing is complete.

How Often Do Our Appliances Need To Be PAT Tested?

Frequency of testing depends on the type of equipment and the environment in which it is used. For example a school would require pat testing more often than an office as it is classified as a higher risk. The frequencies we recommend are based on the guidelines by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and our own experience.

What Needs A PAT Test?

Anything in your workplace with a plug needs PAT testing, including:

Hand Driers

Will It Affect The Workplace During Testing?

There may be some impact such as short periods of downtime on appliances. However, with careful planning and strong liaison between you and your contractor, this can be conducted at a time that best suits your business.

Do Insurance Companies Require PAT Testing?

You have a duty of care with respect to your insurers & the risks they take in underwriting your business. Many businesses are unaware of the insurance implications of not having an up to date Portable Appliance Testing programme in place. Failure to carry out the necessary tests may result in your insurance company refusing to pay out in the unfortunate circumstances of an accident or a fire.

We work with all commercial and industrial enterprises, including local authorities, residential homes, letting agents, schools and colleges and universities, facilities management companies, electrical organisations and retail outlets.
