Periodic Inspection

Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)

A periodic inspection is an inspection on the condition of an existing electrical installation. The installation should be regularly inspected and its condition will be reported on and the results recorded to identify any safety issues (in order of priority) against the national safety standard for electrical installations. Commercial electrical testing results will be provided in the form of an Electrical Condition Report (EICR) which will include a list of non-compliance failures.

Each installation should be periodically inspected at different periods of its life age of the installation for example commercial premises are tested more frequently than residential properties, but every electrical installation should be checked at regular intervals and have the necessary maintenance or remedial work carried out when required. View the recommended inspection and testing schedule.

Periodic electrical testing will provide:

Detection of electrical circuits in case of overloading.
Information about any possible electrical shock risk and fire hazards.
Identification of any defective electrical circuits.
Highlighting the lack of earthing and bonding.

Typically, insurance companies require their clients to carry out periodic electrical testing on their insured premises. In such instances where the test is not completed within the timeline, the insurance policy will become invalid.
